That was not saying much since you must remember that during the times before the civil rights movements. It was the Republicans were the liberals, and it was the southern democrats that were the conservatives. Many civil rights leaders were republican, because it was those in the south that were the racist conservative democrats.

After the civil rights movements the Republican party attracted the conservatives while the democrats became much more liberal.

I know his dad was a republican. I don't know how true your statement is though. He backed JFK and I'm sure he supported who ever supported civil rights.What he stood for was pure and can't be bound by political parties. But what does it matter the parties have changed since then, and also this work doesn't seem to be about politics just two men. I'm not so sure they should be compared. But that is just my opinion. And yes the king deff walked so we ALL could run
